Today's market offers PC-compatible boards for a multitude of functions.
3.1 Modem cards
They are designed to link computers remotely: when it is impossible to establish a customized cable link, the telephone network is used; to avoid altering the information, the signals are modulated at the start and demodulated at the end by a modulator-demodulator (modem).
Transmission speeds range from 300 to 1,200 baud. Some cards are designed to transmit both data and speech.
