1. Monitoring structures with RCFO

Any maintenance doctrine (see Box 1) implies dedicated monitoring, i.e. a means of control, instrumentation, and a data processing chain followed by an "interpretation" section, so as to deliver suitably conditioned information on usage quantities and properties.

Two levels of analysis are generally used. On the one hand, in the field, the information required during a routine inspection is relatively binary, the analysis being "macroscopic": Is this structure healthy, or not, fit to function for the objective set? And only then, in the event of a negative answer, will the technical services seek answers to other questions: What is the origin of the pathologies observed? How long can the structure or equipment still be used? With what level of risk?

Of course, answers cannot be provided by the monitoring...
