2. Conventional ultrasonic methods

In what follows, conventional (as opposed to multi-element) methods are used to describe techniques employing single-element planar contact or immersion transducers. The aim here is to review the principles of ultrasonic beam formation and to introduce the characteristic translator parameters involved.
