3. Some minimum performance values for buildings

3.1 Main sound insulation values between premises in a building (residential or commercial)

If we consider all the decrees relating to noise limitation in various buildings, the standardized acoustic insulation required ranges from 25 to 60 dB (or even 82 dB in the case of a shared room between a hall where amplified music is produced and a dwelling or hotel room).

  • Isolations between 25 and 40 dB all correspond to cases where there is a door in the separating wall between the rooms to be insulated.

  • The 25 dB insulation level is reserved for nursery schools, where communication doors are fitted with "anti-pinch" devices that do not provide a sufficient seal between the door and its frame.
