7. Local modal identification
We present here an example of a local modal identification method in the frequency sense, involving an isolated mode or a small group of coupled modes. This method was formalized by René FILLOD and programmed by Jean Piranda in the early versions of the MODAN© software developed at the Laboratoire de Mécanique Appliquée de Besançon, now the Département Mécanique Appliquée of the FEMTO-ST Institute. It relies on the method of least squares to identify the pole-residual model that best represents the experimental data, a principle also known as FRF curve-fitting.
