1. Contribution of digital aeroacoustics
Aeroacoustics deals with aerodynamic noise, caused by the movement of a solid body in a fluid, or by fluctuations (turbulence, vortices) within the fluid. Noise emission can be dominated by periodic phenomena generating a spectrum of lines (compressor noise) or have a random character, characterized by a broadband spectrum (jet noise). This is a crucial issue in industry and transport, when it comes to controlling the noise environment.
Predicting a machine's acoustic radiation is essential if action is to be taken as early as the preliminary design stage. In addition, good accuracy is required if standards are to be met, so that the manufacturer does not have to allow for costly margins of error.
