1. Definitions

First and foremost, we'd like to set out the definitions we'll need for the rest of this book, particularly with regard to the terms "artificial intelligence" and "ethics". It's important to note that these definitions are often at the heart of political or scientific debates. Choosing the term "artificial intelligence" and then selecting one of its definitions is never neutral. A definition is based on choices and assessments. In its own way, it will distinguish what is important from what is less so.
