5. Precautionary principle and risk assessment

The four "pillars" defined above call on a wealth of information to best characterize uncertainty and its possible consequences, and to compare different decision-making options. This is why the application of the precautionary principle by managers, even if it falls within the remit of risk management, has major repercussions on risk assessment itself.
