3. Disparities in the analytical methods used by manufacturers to control raw materials
Analytical chemistry is a powerful tool in the field of dietary supplements: it enables compounds of interest to be traced and assayed to assess their quality or monitor their stability. To meet the needs of analysts, authorities and consumers, control bodies (DGCCRF, ANSM in France) have set up reference methods (pharmacopoeias, standards), but the explosion of the sector is such that many of the plant species used still have no specifications for their control. At the same time, the considerable development of analytical tools has enabled us to go further in our controls. Paradoxically, however, reference methods cannot be revised as quickly and often remain outdated.
