5. Plastics recycling – Regulation 282/2008

The use of recycled plastic materials to manufacture packaging intended for contact with food is subject to an authorization procedure provided for in a regulation implementing framework regulation 1935/2004: European regulation 282/2008 of March 27, 2008.

It manages the risk of plastic packaging waste containing residues from previous uses (contaminants from improper use or contaminants from unauthorized substances).

It defines special measures to ensure that products made from recycled plastics and intended to come into contact with foodstuffs comply with food contact safety requirements.
