8. Glossary

RFU (réseau de froid urbain); district cooling network

A set of installations in which cold is produced centrally in refrigeration plants, then distributed to the various consumers in the form of chilled water, at 5 or 6°C, circulating in a network of pipes.

RCU (réseau de chauffage urbain); district heating network

RFU, on the other hand, is used to produce and deliver heat to buildings.

CFC (chorofluorocarbon)

Fluorinated gases belonging to the haloalkane family and used in the refrigeration industry in particular, but banned in France since 1989 following the signing of the Montreal Protocol to protect the ozone layer.

HCFC (hydrochlorofluorocarbon)

Organic gases used in refrigeration systems, but banned since 2000...
