4. Conclusions. Outlook

Without being exhaustive, different perspectives on the modeling aspect – simulation of air treatment bioprocesses can be put forward:

  • A more refined approach to mass transfer and diffusion coefficients is needed in order to better reflect reality.

  • Biological phenomena must be better understood and integrated into kinetic equations for pollutant transformation.

  • The complexity of the gas mixtures to be treated must be better taken into account. In most of the models developed, only one major and/or target pollutant is considered. However, in the case of odor pollution, a large number of compounds and their possible interactions must be included in the modeling equations for the purification process.
