4. Initial environmental analysis
4.1 Definition and purpose
Article 2.9 of the regulation defines environmental analysis as "a preliminary in-depth analysis of the environmental aspects, impact and results of an organization's activities, products and services".
The environmental analysis required by EMAS is an essential step in the development of an EMS, since it identifies the pressures that the organization's activities place on the environment, and serves as the basis for defining its environmental policy and objectives.
