The genesis of battery regulations in the EU dates back to Directive 2006/66/EC , established in 2006. This directive focused on minimizing the environmental impacts of batteries, emphasizing collection and recycling while reducing disposal in mixed municipal waste. Initially, it catered largely to the prevalent battery technologies in that period of time
