8. Mistakes to avoid
8.1 Do not develop the fault tree in the same way for events of a similar nature
Such an error would distort the results of the minimum cross-section analysis. If for a "Pump A", the tree analysis has been stopped at the cause "Non-starting of pump A", the same should apply if a similar event is identified (e.g. "Non-starting of pump B"). Otherwise, the cut analysis would be biased, and the pump – for which the search for causes was stopped the earliest – would stand out as having the greatest influence on the probability of the feared event (because the order of the cut would then be lower).
