4. Modeling study process

Modeling the atmospheric dispersion of odors can be used for a variety of purposes, such as assessing the olfactory impact of a plant, or sizing a plant based on a given impact.

Therefore, before starting a study, it is necessary to choose the most suitable model and the methodology to be used according to :

  • characteristics of the study area (size, relief, local meteorology, etc.);

  • source term characteristics (surface, fugitive or channelled source, pollutant phase, etc.);

  • available values (meteorology, emissions, etc.);

  • modelling objectives (olfactory impact, discharge sizing) ;

  • expression of expected results.
