3. Assessment of odor emissions

To assess the odors present on a site, it is first necessary to compile a sample representative of the source to be characterized. This sample, obtained during field sampling, will be used for both sensory and physico-chemical analyses.

3.1 Sampling method

It's important to remember here that, in any analysis, sampling is certainly the stage that introduces the greatest bias. It is also for this reason that odor sampling remains a critical point, and that examination of results in absolute terms is far less relevant than comparative examination over time or between sources.
