Product and process-oriented research and development activities

Any scientific development related to the development of products or the further development of a substance, on its own, in a mixture or in an article, in which a pilot plant or production trials are used to define the production process and/or to test the fields of application of the substance (article 3.22 of REACH);

Scientific research and development

Any scientific experimentation, analysis or chemical research carried out under controlled conditions and involving quantities of less than 1 tonne per year (article 3.23 of REACH).
