3. Preventive source mitigation solutions

New installations or installations where production lines have been completely overhauled are better able to limit sources of odour. Hot equipment should be completely enclosed, and hoods and closures maintained in good condition. Containers must be fitted with anti-spill devices, such as raised manholes. The sheet thicknesses of screws and other equipment must be generously dimensioned to ensure that they do not deform under the effect of temperature and wear. When these conditions are met, ambient quality is fundamentally improved.

As far as raw materials are concerned, an ideal solution would be to put them in conditions where their fermentability would be stopped, thus acting on the cause and not on the subsequent treatment of the odor. Ideally, such temporary storage would take place in a refrigerated enclosure at 7°C, as is the case in slaughterhouses, where...
