1. What are the differences between a SIS and a RIS?
SIFs, which are provided by SISs, are barriers that can act either in prevention, to reduce the occurrence of a dreaded event, or in mitigation, i.e. to limit the intensity of effects should the dreaded event occur. SISs thus complement the other types of barriers that can be implemented to ensure safety. The LOPA method introduces SIS as a layer of protection.
