2. How to implement a PDCA-based 5S approach?

2.1 Plan: planning 5S

To be effective in the long term, the 5S approach needs to be managed in project mode. Here is a list of prerequisites for a successful project.

  • Appoint a long-term project manager. The position of quality manager may be considered, although other functions may also be required.

  • Define the project steering committee. It must be made up of supervisors, managers and stakeholders, as well as management or its representative. As with any participative approach, management involvement is a sine qua non for the project's success.

  • Take stock and define the scope of the project.

  • Define a goal with quantifiable objectives....
