To be effective in the long term, the 5S approach needs to be managed in project mode. Here is a list of prerequisites for a successful project.

Appoint a long-term project manager. The position of quality manager may be considered, although other functions may also be required.
Define the project steering committee. It must be made up of supervisors, managers and stakeholders, as well as management or its representative. As with any participative approach, management involvement is a sine qua non for the project's success.
