1. Prototyping context and objective

The Biodiversity Wall concept was conceived as part of the ChartierDalix agency's research into how to accommodate living things, which began with the École des Sciences et de la Biodiversité project in Boulogne-Billancourt, delivered in 2014. This project is the result of an unprecedented collaboration between architects and ecologists, right from the start of the project, from its programming and design to its completion and monitoring. The building's facade is made up of large masonry concrete blocks, creating welcoming crevices for flora and fauna, sculpted with grooves to retain water and substrate. The aim is to encourage the growth of spontaneous species, without the need for maintenance or watering, in the image of old dry-stone walls.
