1.1 Definition and structure
Whatever its size, a watercourse (or a body of water, in the case of lacustrine or stagnant environments) is formed within a drainage basin (BV), which constitutes its recharge surface. A BV is a water collection area located upstream of a geographical point and defined as an outlet. This area is bounded by the contour within which all water flows, above and below ground, towards this outlet. Its boundaries are known as watersheds.
