2. Implementation of ecological management
Often carried out by green space or registry office departments, ecological management of cemeteries reinforces the presence of nature in the city and the urban green network. Cemeteries are part of the urban green fabric, acting as ecological corridors when they are close to more natural areas (woods, parks, gardens, wasteland, etc.), but also as refuges for numerous species of flora and fauna, due to the inherent calm of these places. Like urban parks, they can be real islands of nature in the city.
Like green spaces, cemeteries can, through appropriate management, be welcoming places for biodiversity. The diversity of environments found in cemeteries is an asset and an opportunity to make them places where loved ones can gather and biodiversity can thrive.
