4. Conclusions

At a time when promoting the sustainable development of urban community gardens and healthy eating is a key challenge for local authorities, the POTEX project has tested a number of layouts (excavation, topsoil, above-ground trough and geotextile) designed to reduce, to varying degrees, users' exposure to organic and inorganic soil pollutants.

To cope with the complexity of garden ecosystems, it is essential to work in an interdisciplinary way and to reinforce the continuum between knowledge and know-how. Successful communication to the general public is a key factor in promoting the greening of practices in various sectors.
