Although knowledge of urban soil biodiversity has improved considerably since the beginning of the 21st century, it remains essentially limited to the sphere of a few soil ecologists and political activists. Mediation work is needed to raise awareness in other spheres of society: from citizens to decision-makers, via the various players working in contact with soils. This work is all the more vital as soil organisms are not considered very photogenic and generally suffer from a bad reputation. Perception biases linked to the aesthetics of organisms and a difficulty in apprehending otherness can be found even among ecology researchers.
