3. Transfer to adsorbents
The impact of adsorption kinetics on the performance of adsorption processes is generally less significant than that of thermodynamic properties (except in the case of processes based on kinetic selectivities). However, a thorough understanding of adsorption kinetics is still essential for quantitatively accurate predictions of process performance. It should also be noted that control of adsorption kinetics is becoming increasingly important with the use of ever faster cycles in industrial adsorption processes.
Adsorption kinetics of adsorbent grains can be measured by microscopic techniques, such as methods based on NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and neutron scattering, and macroscopic techniques based on the calibration of dynamic responses of adsorption systems subjected to pressure/concentration/temperature variations
