2. Adsorption

2.1 General

A very finely divided body can, under certain conditions, bind dissolved bodies, particularly large organic molecules, to its surface.

This binding is the result of two bonds: Van der Waals bonds for physical adsorption, and valence and covalent bonds for chemical adsorption, also known as chemisorption.
