Waste sludge
In wastewater treatment, this refers to the semi-solid sludge residue that remains after most of the liquid content of the wastewater has been removed.

At the European level, waste is defined as “any substance or object which the holder discards, or intends or is required to discard.”
Suspended solids (SS)
SS is solid particles visible in water, resulting from erosion or human activities, which cloud the water and can carry pollutants. Their accumulation primarily causes mechanical effects and poses a risk of pollution. Their concentration is measured by filtration or centrifugation to monitor water quality.
