1. Water use in foundry

Molten metal and water are not good friends, and it's best if they never meet. Water's uses in foundry work are generally limited to cooling furnaces, machines and even metal parts in die-casting.

1.1 Industrial water in ferrous metal foundries

Water is generally used in cooling systems for :

  • electric induction furnaces for melting cast iron and steel,

  • electric arc furnaces for steel melting,

  • rotary gas furnaces for steel melting,

  • cupolas for melting cast iron.

Cooling circuits are normally closed-loop. Ground or surface water is frequently used.
