Agenda 21

Agenda 21 is an action plan for the 21st century. Adopted by 178 heads of state at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, this action plan describes the sectors in which sustainable development is to be applied by local and regional authorities. It makes recommendations in areas as varied as :

  • poverty;

  • HEALTH ;

  • accommodation ;

  • pollution ;

  • management of seas, forests and mountains ;

  • desertification;

  • water resources and sanitation management ;

  • agricultural management;

  • waste management.
