2. DM operating configurations

There are four configurations that enable membrane distillation to maintain the driving force on both sides of the membrane. These are Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DMCD), Air Blade Membrane Distillation (ABMD), Vacuum Membrane Distillation (VMD) and Gas Scavenging Membrane Distillation (GMSD) shown in figure 3 . These configurations differ only in their condensation mode.
