7. Effluent treatment

7.1 Effluent characteristics

Paper mill effluents are mainly composed of :

  • process water overflow and drips around the paper machine;

  • water from glands, pumps, mixers, refiners and purifiers;

  • machine head purification rejects ;

  • pressing water wastewater from pasta preparation ;

  • washing water from kitchens and sleeping quarters;

  • sludge dewatering water.

These flows are collected by a network of gutters and sent to the plant via a lift pump. The resulting effluent mainly contains suspended matter such as fibers, cellulose fines, mineral...
