Summary

The fifth generation of cellular wireless networks, more simply known as 5G, is not expected to be available to the general public before 2020. However, the amount of innovation required and the underlying financial stakes make it a major topic today. It will enable the development of a multitude of new services that will need to be delivered to tens of billions of terminals, which is why major research and standardization work is needed.
