9. Conclusion
Magnet molecules are molecules with unconventional magnetic properties of molecular origin. Thanks to their nanometric size, these molecules also have quantum properties.
They are thus nanometric superparamagnets on which the storage of information in magnetic form can be envisaged. This concept has been given new impetus by the use of 4f ions (anisotropic lanthanides in particular) to produce high-performance magnet molecules whose magnetic properties are no longer confined to very low temperatures, but are visible above the temperature of liquid nitrogen.
Molecular magnets are also particularly promising objects for related disciplines. Molecular transistors and spin-valves (spintronics), molecular qubits (quantum computing) and nanometric magnetic coolants (magnetocalorics) based on molecule-magnets have all been synthesized.
