6. Conclusion and outlook

This technology has undeniable advantages over lithium-ion technologies in terms of safety of use, energy density and production cost; however, lowering the optimum operating temperature to 40°C remains an important objective for large-scale implementation. The development of new families of polymer electrolytes, and in particular polyanionic block copolymers, is opening up major prospects, enabling different properties (mechanical, conductivity, transport number, electrochemical stability, etc.) to be combined by modifying the chemical nature of the blocks. However, plasticizers are likely to be required for operation at 40°C.
