1. Definition of social engineering

Social engineering, also sometimes referred to as psychological fraud, covers the use of human manipulation and deception techniques using digital tools. Its appearance in the cyber domain dates back to the 1950s, with the emergence of phreakers. These users hijacked the operation of the telephone lines of the time, in order to obtain communications or services free of charge .
