8. Characteristic values
Cement is characterized by a certain number of criteria measured in a conventional way, either on powder, on paste, or on "normal mortar" (standardized mixture of cement, sand and water) defined by the standard NF EN 196-1 September 2016.
8.1 Powder characteristics

Specific surface area (Blaine fineness)
It is used to measure the fineness of grind of a cement. It is characterized by the specific surface or total developed surface of all the grains contained in one gram of cement (standard NF EN 196-6 December 2018). It is expressed in cm2/g. Depending on the type of cement, this value is generally between 2,800 and 5,000 cm2/g.
