Despite this long history, full of deeds and experiments, and the contribution of scientific knowledge described above, the term lime is still very generic. Chemists, manufacturers and users do not always have the same definition. We will endeavor here to provide the necessary semantic clarification.
Even today, the term lime covers a wide range of products, all of which have one thing in common: they are obtained by calcining (heating at high temperature) limestone. In a deliberate attempt to simplify, depending on the composition of the raw material, the end product is either air lime or hydraulic lime.
