12. Standard library
Like C, the C++ standard includes the definition of a standard library. Naturally, all the functions provided for in pre-standard C++ versions can be found in this library, whether they be the previously described streams or functions from the standard C library. Most of these are class patterns and functions taken from a public domain library, the Standard Template Library (STL for short), developed by Hewlett Packard.
