6. Indirect synthesis
In the preceding analog synthesis schemes, the spectral purity of the signal is limited by spurious lines from successive mixtures, which are not sufficiently attenuated by filtering. Indirect synthesis relies on the use of phase-locked loops, which inherently provide highly efficient filtering.
