2. MMIC technologies

2.1 Silicon chains

Today, MMICs can be manufactured using two silicon die families: CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) and BiCMOS (Bipolar – Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technologies, which integrate a bipolar transistor into a CMOS die. These two families can be divided into three types.

  • Standard CMOS technologies

    These are technologies developed for digital applications, not specifically optimized for millimeter applications, but for which an HF scope can be offered. This scope includes RF models of MOS field-effect transistors combined with optimized layouts (transistor designs). In addition, HF models of passive components can usually be produced without any modification to the technology....
