1. Introduction to MMICs
MMICs (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) are a family of integrated circuits designed for high-frequency applications. It should be noted that the microwave range covers frequencies from a few gigahertz to a few tens of gigahertz. However, the term MMIC also encompasses circuits operating well beyond this range, up to a few hundred gigahertz. Currently, the World Radio Conference (WRC) has designated frequency bands open for wireless communications up to 450 GHz. These are the millimeter-wave and submillimeter-wave, or sub-terahertz, ranges.
