Carbon remains the preferred material for blocking electrodes, especially as new varieties of activated carbon, activated fibers, aerogels and nanotubes continue to emerge. We now know how to obtain materials with a very high specific surface area, interesting chemical and electrochemical stabilities and acceptable electronic conductivities.
