6. Mechanical sizing and verification
The lines are subjected to different load cases and must be checked with the combination of load cases defined in the construction code.
The most commonly encountered load cases are: self-weight, normal operating conditions (pressure and temperature), proof test, vacuum purge, earthquake and climatic conditions (wind, snow, outside temperature, etc.).
The diameter of the internal piping system(s) is obtained by checking the pressure drops according to the operating conditions: flow rate, pressure, temperature, fluid density, and by limiting the flow velocity, particularly with oxygen (the rule usually used for gaseous oxygen is 30 m/s for a pressure less than or equal to 15 bar).
