5. French energy balance and industry's share
Overall primary energy consumption in France amounted to 2,769 TWh in 2021 (climate-adjusted data), of which more than 30% was for losses and transformation. It increased by 4% after the 2020 pandemic, without quite returning to its 2019 level (– 1.6%).
Per capita primary energy consumption (3.66 toe/capita or 42.56 MWh/capita in 2021) is in line with the European average.
