2. Understand the implications of being included on the Candidate List

The Candidate List identifies substances classified as SVHCs. SVHCs have hazardous properties of very high concern that can have serious and often irreversible effects on humans and/or the environment. Their placement on the market and their use are therefore likely to have health and/or environmental impacts that must be understood, anticipated, and managed as necessary.

This is why the inclusion of a substance on the Candidate List requires the manufacturer and/or distributor to inform the downstream supply chain of its hazardous nature. The information required varies depending on the substance’s intended use. These obligations concern:

  • substances on their own;

  • their presence in a mixture;

  • their use in the manufacture of an article.
