INTRODUCTION
The aim of this text is to present the FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis)/FMEA (Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis) approach and methods, not to duplicate the numerous booklets, articles, training materials or book chapters devoted to quality or operational safety which describe FMEA(C). The author has endeavored to draw on the rich experience of a number of specialists who have applied these methods in a variety of contexts. The value he hopes to have added is therefore mainly in the form of comments and recommendations aimed at helping to better understand and use these widely used methods.
This dossier begins by situating FMEA(C) in its environment, and giving it its meaning. It then illustrates the use of these methods, before highlighting the main recommendations and limitations. A more academic example, for the sake of brevity, gives concrete form to the approach before concluding.

Appendix 1: FMEA for a lamp post
To illustrate our approach, here's a virtual example of a FMEA analysis. In order to present a fairly small FMECA, the system studied is a simple object and the decomposition is not detailed. This analysis has no claim to relevance, and is intended only to illustrate the approach.
The object under consideration is an ordinary floor lamp.
