5. What are the degrees of severity?
In systemic toxicity, degrees of severity of effects on the organs affected (target organs) are expressed in terms of action thresholds for the doses administered.
Effect thresholds are determined for each substance.
5.1 Maximum threshold without effect
The no-observed-effect level (NOEL) is the threshold at which no treatment-related effects are observed in treated animals.
The no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) is the threshold at which no toxic effects due to the product are observed in treated animals, but with the possibility of the appearance of non-toxic disorders linked to the treatment.
