3. Conclusion
The emergence of "crises" associated with packaging materials – plasticizers, can varnishes, lid varnishes and seals, printing inks – has drawn consumer attention to these materials. Their use is regulated by a framework directive (2004/1935/EC), which requires risk analysis and management. With this in mind, this dossier presents the technological elements and scientific knowledge that enable players in the packaging and agri-food sectors to implement a critical control point (CCP) analysis approach. The analysis can be qualitative and/or quantitative. Qualitative analysis is preferred as a first step, or when scientific knowledge is insufficient. Today, such knowledge is particularly lacking when it comes to predicting the appearance of neo-formed contaminants.
